MN: “Celebration – Music of Gao Hong” concert
To celebrate Gao Hong's 35th anniversary of playing her instrument,
pipa master and composer Gao Hong will perform pure traditional
work from the Pudong repertoire as well as her own compositions.
Included in the program will be a very important work lost for generations
and recently reconstructed by Gao Hong's late mentor, Pudong master
Lin Shicheng. The program also includes a special pipa and sitar
duet with guest artists Shubhendra Rao on sitar- a top disciple
of Ravi Shankar - and rising young tabla star Biplab Bhattacharya.
Three Gao Hong's world premiere compositions perform by taiko drum
master Kenny Endo, David Hagedorn, percussion, the local Chinese
Minghua Chorus, and the Rochster Symphony Orchestra. Also featured
will be the premiere performances of an all-female ensemble featuring
cellist Michelle Kinney; Gao Hong on pipa; and Indian vocalist and
veena player Nirmala Rajasekar.
Tickets: $18 for adults, $16 students and senior in advance, $20
